The Case For Copious Cuts of Cardboard

(Yes, that^ is a 12 inch ruler!)

As a crafter, it can be hard to hamper hoarding. “But I’ll need more cardboard!” you think to yourself. This is true, but at what expense?

For me the cost of storage is not only special, & aesthetic, but also relational. The wife hates seeing me sneak in with a new box, or scrap, or whatever.

So ask yourself these questions before storing:

  1. Do I actually need it right now?
  2. Could I easily find this again?

In the case of the picture above, that’s a 24”x24” section of unbent or folded cardboard. While the answer to question one when I picked it up was “no,” I also knew it would be tough to find a piece this large, and I’m glad I kept it! Had the answer been “no” to both, I should have skipped it.

I’m building a 16” long stable and this sheet will serve me well to create some nice, smooth, & clean walls.

Star Wars (practice) Minis For Painting

A sweet Goodwill score for $3.75! I’m by no means an experienced mini-painter, but the thought of starting with a larger scale to practice and learn and then scaling down has indeed crossed my mind many times.

Enter these beauties. A complete Star Wars chess set, with classic, prequel, and new trilogy figures. I’ve been talking to my girls about playing some Star Wars RP adventures, and these would be perfectly fun to use (even “as-is”).

The plan would be to de-base most of them, primer and paint, and then rebase them. Terrain would be very fun to build as well at this scale. We could even play some Star Wars Little Wars with these! Oh, the possibilities...

(Example figure of the bib that would need to be cut of for re-basing)
